happy “the tens”

… or “the teens”? Regardless, happy new year! Old family tradition was to play with sparklers, of which I am mildly afraid, on NYE. The last year I was with my family for new year, several years ago, I mostly took the pictures.

this christmas

This Christmas, especially, was about love. My family means everything to me, and it was most definitely the most difficult Christmas ever. But we got through it.

culturtecture

The Chicago Cultural Center was the first building I toured when thinking of moving to Chicago a few years ago. With its varying types of impressive architecture, sweeping grand staircase, and the largest Tiffany dome in the world, I added it to my list of “favorite libraries in the world” (yes, I do have a list of those… yes, I am a nerd), despite it being converted from the central library building to the cultural center in 1991.

desaturate

Saturation is one of my favorite things to play with in regards to photo editing, either with desaturation down to one outstanding color, or with super-saturation up to hypercolor. Either one can totally change the feeling of a photo.

sunset story

I find sunsets to be peaceful yet impassioned, beautiful, and bittersweet. The last time I saw a sunset that aroused all those feelings in me was the last eveningĀ Caitlin and I were in Honduras in June. There is a lot more I want to say right now, but I just don’t know where it is. I’ll start trying to update this blog more often for my two (no, seriously, I think I only have two) readers.

waterfall

My pretend excuse this time for not posting in forever is that I was visiting my family in Houston and being silly with them for days on end. My real excuse is that I’m lazy, but that’s what vacations are for, right?

This photo was taken at the Waterwall at the Williams (formerly Transco) Tower. I am proud of the fact that I didn’t even need to do one single bit of editing on this picture.
